In the Document Control Module, when you are creating a document or uploading a new revision you must indicate if the document is an Engineering or Production revision.

Engineering Document Revisions

  • Engineering-level documents are in-work versions of documents that will usually be released at the Production-level once they are complete. For example, as the development of a document or product evolves, a company, or a team, may want to circulate and approve a point-in-time version (albeit incomplete) of that document or product (part, element, material specification, etc.).
  • Once a document is released as an engineering version (1.0) all future drafts will be (1.1, 1.2 etc.) until it's released again as (2.0).
  • When creating an Engineering version- select Engineering as the revision

Production Document Revisions

  • Once an Engineering- level document is ready to implemented in the company, it will be released as a Production-level document.
For example, as the development of a document or product evolves, a company, or a team, may want to circulate and approve a point-in-time version (albeit incomplete) of that document or product (part, element, material specification, etc.).
  • When a document is ready to be approved in its completed state (Production-level document), in the Document Control Module, select that its a Production revision (A.0, B.0 etc).
  • Only Production-level documents are “Official”; they by definition are complete and satisfy all the requirements for that deliverable. For example, a Production-level SRS would have no outstanding, “TBD” or blank requirements.
  • If one (or multiple) approval cycle(s) are desired before the completed Production-level version is ready, it is recommended to use engineering revs (revs 1.0, 2.0, etc.)
  • When a document is ready to be approved in its completed state and ready to be a Production-level document, select production-level and revisions will be A.0, B.0 etc.

Once a document is released as a production version (A.0) all future drafts will be (A.1, A.2 etc.) until it's released again as (B.0).
